Leeds United have improved significantly under the guidance of Marcelo Bielsa, establishing themselves amongst the favourites for promotion to the Premier League.
The highly-rated Argentine boss arrived at Elland Road in the summer and immediately made significant changes to the squad, bringing in exciting additions and offloading a wealth of players he deemed to be surplus to requirements.
In total, six new additions made their way to the Yorkshire giants. We asked fans who they believe were the best recruits of the lot and the results are now in so without further ado, here is Leeds’ best three additions this summer according to the fans.
3. Patrick Bamford
Arriving ahead of the new season from Championship rivals Middlesbrough, Patrick Bamford was tipped to play a crucial part in Leeds’ push for survival but it has unfortunately not worked out that way for the former Chelsea man.
Bamford played just seven times for Leeds in all competitions, scoring his first goal for the club in the EFL Cup victory over Bolton, but will now be out of action until the New Year after suffering a ligament injury in action for the U23 side.
2. Jack Harrison
A highly-rated talent on loan from defending Premier League champions Manchester City, Jack Harrison has quickly established himself as a key member of Bielsa’s squad after seven starts and three substitute appearances in the Championship.
His only goal for the Peacocks came in a 1-1 draw with Millwall in September and there is certainly still more to come from the 21-year-old during the remainder of the season.
1. Barry Douglas
Finishing top of the standings is full-back Barry Douglas, who has featured in 11 of Leeds’ 12 Championship games this season after establishing himself as Bielsa’s first-choice option on the left side of the defence after being brought in from Wolverhampton Wanderers by Victor Orta.
The 29-year-old has provided three assists for Leeds and his best performances have come in the victories over Norwich and Preston. His defensive contributions, however, have been vital as he has become a core part of a back-line that has conceded just nine goals in 12 games.
His addition was one that showed the Yorkshire club mean business when it comes to trying to win promotion this term, and as things stand they are well in the race.
