According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur want Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensio in part-exchange for Christian Eriksen.
What’s the word, then?
Eriksen will see his current deal with Tottenham expire at the end of next season.
And it has recently been claimed that Real Madrid were preparing a £45m plus unwanted midfielder Dani Ceballos offer for the Denmark international.
However, according to The Sun, Spurs have made it clear that they want Asensio as part of any potential deal for Eriksen.
The report has claimed that Tottenham would be prepared to take the 24-time Spain international on an initial loan, although Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane is keen to keep hold of the attacker in this summer’s transfer window.
There is absolutely no question that Eriksen has been a brilliant player for Spurs.
However, it would be a stroke of genius by chairman Daniel Levy if he could secure a player of Asensio’s ability in exchange for the unsettled Dane.
Asensio could flourish in the Premier League
Asensio was excellent in his first two seasons in the Real Madrid first team – scoring 21 times and playing a key role in their Champions League success.
The 23-year-old found it extremely difficult to make his mark last term, however, ultimately contributing just six goals and seven assists in 44 appearances.

Just one of those goals arrived in La Liga and he was left out of the team on a number of occasions in the final months of the campaign.
Asensio is a serious, serious talent, though. And when considering that Eriksen is ready to move on, it would be a no brainer to part with the former Ajax man in order to secure a potentially world-class operator – Vicente Del Bosque certainly feels he will be in the future judging by his 2017 comments.
It remains to be seen whether Real Madrid would be prepared to lose Asensio this summer, but it would be a wonderful piece of business for Tottenham.
